We show that if internal and momentum states of an interfering particle are entangled, then by measuring its internal state we may infer both path (corpuscular) and phase (wavelike) information with practically any precision, without the complementarity constraints of which-path detection. This holds also for multipath–multistate configurations, allowing large amounts of information to be stored in a single particle. We further show that highly complex particles (e.g., molecules or macroscopic bodies) subject to fields that couple (entangle) their internal and translational (momentum) states may undergo an irresversible randomization (diffusion), manifest by the disappearance of the interference pattern, as if they are subject to decoherence. Thus, translational-internal entanglement can give rise to anomalies in quantum wavepacket propagation. 相似文献

This paper addresses an underrated aspect of historic preservation policy: the role played by social factors in conflicts over proposals to develop heritage properties. After reviewing existing literature, we develop a theoretical framework and apply it to heritage-related decisions made by planning inspectors in the English planning system. Specifically, the research focuses on planning appeals pertaining to development in conservation areas. We focus on conflicts in Greater London Area and analyse the content of 105 sampled case studies. The findings show that social considerations are present, to some extent, in almost half of the decisions, and that inspectors are often cognizant of the positive and negative social aspects of heritage protection policies. Although heritage policy in England has been acknowledged for its physical and architectural emphasis, in fact, the analysis reveals that, during planning processes, decision-makers also focus attention on the social implications of historic protection. The recognition of the social implications suggests that there are multidimensional perspectives in heritage policy. Indeed, in a large share of conflicts, the inspectors viewed historic preservation in a critical manner, emphasizing the social benefits attributed to demolitions and alterations rather than to preservation. In those cases, planning inspectors stressed better and more affordable housing as public interests which justify why heritage could not be strictly protected. By studying the trajectories of heritage disputes, the paper points out the underlying dimensions of conflicts and concludes that if policymakers are to devise socially inclusive heritage policies, they must first acknowledge their deep and often complex social implications. 相似文献

A theoretical model to analyze the performance of a circular polarization microstrip antenna printed on a conical surface is presented. The radiation pattern of the antenna is simulated by the radiation from its four radiating edges (two axial and two circumferential). The electromagnetic field is expanded in terms of spherical wave modes and it is shown that the circular polarization is obtained by exciting in the antenna two spherical TEr orthogonal modes with 90° phase difference. The forward scattering from an arbitrarily shaped cylinder is characterized by its scattering pattern and the induced field ratio (IFR). Accurate calculation of these parameters for arbitrarily shaped and composite beams is in many cases time consuming, therefore analytical approximations are used. A combined experimental and numerical procedure for evaluation of these parameters based on near-field probing is presented as an alternative. This procedure is shown to be far more accurate than the analytical approximations presently used in calculations of the total scattering effect of tuned sandwich radomes. A novel integrated-optic coupling configuration if proposed. The device operation is based on the confinement of the coupling zone to the length of a very short Fabry-Perot cavity. The cavity is electrooptically coupled with a parallel outcoupling guide. By employing accurate lithographic techniques for the fabrication of milled integrated mirrors, with total lengths of the order of 5-10 μm, devices 100 to 200 μm long can be considered. These can perform full coupling operation at bandwidths in the range of many tens of gigahertz with typically a 12-15-dB extinction ratio. The same configuration can also be used for low-frequency switching, where an extinction ratio of >20 dB is expected. An optical microscope study of the stress relief forms of diamond-like carbon thin films is presented in this paper. The dimensions of the stress relief patterns are shown to be proportional to the film thickness. Three stress relief forms are distinguished.
